Emergent or urgent bleeding: this includes ER visits, hospitalizations, emergency surgery.

  • During business hours contact the UCBCD, let the office staff know your call is urgent and stay on the line until you speak with a person.

  • After hours contact numbers above. Remember to FACTOR FIRST and bring your factor with you.

    • In the case of a bleed or possible bleed, especially head injury, factor should be infused IMMEDIATELY; do not wait for test results (i.e. labs, imaging, etc.) Labs and imaging may be completed AFTER factor has been infused.

Anticipated surgical or dental procedures:

  • Contact the UCBCD at least 2 weeks prior to the procedure. If you call with less than two weeks’ notice, your procedure may be cancelled or delayed due to the coordination of care necessary for a safe procedure.

  • Please provide the following: procedure date, surgeon or dentist name, facility name, phone and fax numbers.

Questions or concerns that are NOT urgent:

  • During regular business hours, calls will be prioritized and could take up to 24 hours to hear back.

  • Please leave a detailed message by voice mail and avoid using email to communicate.

Travel:

It is of vital importance to your safety and health that you keep treatment supplies (i.e. needles, syringes, alcohol wipes, and medications) in your possession at all times so you may infuse immediately in the event of a bleed. In addition, be aware that factor products are extremely costly and temperature sensitive. To avoid breakage and product destruction, they should not be packed in checked luggage.
